The CMI QXD Quick Escape Device is a compact personal escape descender designed for intuitive control with a gloved hand. Squeezing the rope slows or stops the descent, providing simple operation in demanding conditions. Made from 6061 T6 aluminum, the QXD weighs 4 oz and has an 11,500 lb minimum breaking strength. It exceeds NFPA 1983, 2006 Edition testing requirements but is not certified.

When sliding down a rope, the natural instinct is to squeeze the rope to slow or stop the descent. CMI took this natural instinct and built it into the QXD. Unlike other devices, the QXD is designed to be used with a gloved hand and the natural instinct of squeezing the rope stops or slows the descent. This pays off in additional safety under trying conditions.
